I'm a Cosmetologist and do a few of my family members hair, etc. Now mind you my DH is self employed and I work part-time as a secretay-PA. We do not make a lot of money. We actually lived in a camper for 2.5 years when we were first married, then purchased 11.5 acres, and a 30 yo mobile home to put on it till we paid off land for 5 years. And about 2 years ago we were finally able to build our small home ( Dad always said you had to crawl before you could walk). Nothing fancy about our home, just plain Cape Cod, no brick, just vinyl etc...Our vehicles, one 97 model car and another 99 model truck. Anyhoo my cousin just goes on and on when I do her hair about how much money her fiance makes, their nice home, nice cars, how extravagant their wedding is going to be, how all the girls just love her son, how her daughter has to look so-so, how much her ring cost, and blah blah, blah blaaaah, and more , more, more. I stand behind her rolling my eyes it drives me crazy [IMG]. I so could care less, I am not a materialistic person and she knows it. So I can't seem to understand why in the world she goes on and on about having and expensive trips, as if she has to prove something to me [IMG], I really am thinking about not doing her hair anymore. I just don't get it. Anyone?

Yes, but I don't think what she pays me is worth listening to her go on and on, and she wants me to do everyone's hair and make up for the wedding.[IMG]

Generally speaking, a person has to be quite insecure to brag like that relative...and clueless, as it's tacky. (Sorry if I sound insulting.) I can see how aggravating it would be, as we also live simply and without apologies...we prefer chickens, gardening, and the outdoors to golf, casinos, and cruises. You might say we stick out in the family!

At least you can be grateful that you've worked hard for what you have and appreciate the small things! I applaude you![IMG]
Stay true to your values and don't sink down to anyone else's level, if they want to be competitive.

I have a SIL the same way. It's their way of trying to make themselves seem more important than you because they are actually very insecure and jealous. [IMG]

It sounds to me like she might be just a bit miserable, and she figures if others envy her, then she can feel better. She is trying to convince herself that having money is better than being satisfied with life. If she can get validation from others, it makes it easier for her to believe it.

I have found that when people have money and TALK constantly about it, they are usually not happy with the money.

One of the happiest rich guys I ever knew was my old boss. He grew up in a family that had Millions of dollars. He was the most down to earth guy I've ever met, funny, happy, loved to jump in and work with us all. And he NEVER discussed money.

People who talk about all they have (like a laundry list of items), are simply not happy with what they have - even if they have all the money in the world.

Maybe she is jealous of you and your hubby?

    to answer your question, YES.

My 2 kids and wife, one I volunteered for, the other 2 I made. Dad always said I was not very smart... I am thankful me and the dog get along real good. I pet her on the head and rub her belly and she wags her tail, we get along fine.... [IMG]
