Do you have to dump out entire feeder?

We have 4 chicks...

I have the small round tin feeder and I wanted to know if I have to dump the entire contense everyday to put new mash in it?..
seems to be a big waste since they only eat off the top....

If it's no wet or poopy, just add to it.

do you need to stir it up to get the older stuff off bottom?..

How long can you go before adding fresh stuff?..

What I do with the feeders is fill it when it gets low I just take the top off and let them scratch and do what ever they want in it. generally they scratch/eat and dust bath. Ha! then when they are done I fill it again put the lid on and start all over again. I never put fresh on top.
