Does anyone know what the breed is of the brown chick (named Crimson)and the black and white one we call lamington. The other 2 are silkys. So many baby chicks look very similar...

Same question about my four "Ameracauna" hens. They look like no EE pics on here and they lay medium-brown colored eggs.

There are many breeds that look like the brown one when they are chicks. Do you have any pics of the parents? Not sure what the black and white one is. Possibly a silver laced something??

    Thank you Mstrawn3,
Thanks to your suggestion I have searched and found I have a golden Wyandotte and silver campine..I got the fertile eggs from my friends dad. He has quite a few chooks and some rare ones. I was about to try my hand at my first incubation of silky eggs when my incubator died. So he lent me his incubator and gave me some eggs and said give these a shot...he's away for another week so I can't quizz him yet!

Thanks for answering, but they aren't Barred Rocks. I have two of those as well. They don't seem to match anything in the breed database.

Here's another picture, with a Barred Rock in back next to the pullet and a Barred Rock tushie in the front. The barring is very crisp and distinct on each feather between white and black. The mystery breed, next to the RIR, is greyish-brown. The pattern of feather coloring is different too, I'm not sure if it could really be called barred (still learning chicken vocab here). Most of the feathers fade gradually from white at the base to brown at the tip and the pinions gradually fade light and dark brown.

The other two are SLW, your birds are likely hatchery or backyard quality that is why the barring is not crisp.

They kind of look like a cuckoo maran but unless you know the breeding of the birds its just a guess.

Cuckoo Marans look like your chickens. They are barred, but it is less crisp than a barred rock. Their legs and feet should be a pale pinkish white, unlike a barred rock whose is more yellow with darker coloring up the front.
