I have seen pics of people that have baby chicks and have a stuffed animal of some sort in the tub with them, does this comfort them or make them think it is there mama? do many people do this? I have four kids so a stuffed animal will not be hard to find, i was just wondering.

I use a stuffed monkey! they always cuddle up with it!!! they LOVE their monkey!!

I don't, but I know people who do. It might not comfort them or it might make them feel comforted. I have no idea. However, I know it doesn't hurt to have something in there with them.

My daughter does it. They seem to poop all over them. She washed it once in my new washing machine

I caught her trying to do it again, and jumped her little sneaky butt! I waited for her to go to school and tossed it! It got really nasty!

I have heard the feather duster thing too, lol, that would be so cute to see them peeking out, lol. I think i might get a stuffed animal and try it, like i said with four kids in the house i have PLENTY of stuffed animals to spare, and am always looking for a reason to get rid of them, lol.

I have 1 little bantam cochin fella (or girl) that hatched with a'bum' leg. I didnt want to put her/him in with the larger chicks, so we gave him/her a little bird stuffed animal. He loved it. He now has other hatchling bantam cochins in with him, and they love it too. The like to stand on it, sleep on it, etc....

I've used stuffed animals and also used "rice socks" as surrogates for a lone chick to cuddle up to. I take a tube sock and put dry/uncooked rice in it and heat in the microwave before putting in. Usually they cuddle up and go to sleep and seems to comfort them. You can also do these into a circle for some chicks that are having a bit of a hard time standing at first or are in the bandaid brace for spraddle-leg. I just use a bit less rice so the sock is more shape-able and make a circle like "nest" for the chick and put them in the middle. Usually helps them stand perfectly in a couple days.

Mine never gets pooped on too bad! I do wash it in the washing machine hot water and a splash of bleach after every batch of chicks. Dryer with NO dryer sheet and monkey is as good as new!!! I tried the feather duster, just didn't work for me!
