Does anyone feed Bulger Wheat?

I found this wheat in the grocery store and I was wondering if it's ok to give the girls. Since they don't usually eat the corn in the mixed scratch grains, I was looking to mix my own treats. The grocery store has those bins and I found: unsalted/uncooked sunflower seeds, flax seeds and bulger wheat. I thought this would be a good combo as a treat. Does this seem ok to use?
    Thanks.

Jillyam, bulger wheat is wheat that has been first boiled and then dried. You would be feeding the hens almost the same thing if you gave them noodles. And, lots of chickens get sunflower seeds as treats. BOSS (black oil sunflower seeds) are standard fare at the backyard bird feeding station, also.

It isn't uncommon to have flaxseed in poultry feed but it amounts to only a small percentage of the mix. An increase in omega-3 fatty acids in eggs creates an interest in using flax in laying rations. The problem is that the eggs from hens fed over 10 percent flax seed have an off flavor. Or, so I've read [IMG].

I think it would be fine to feed them. Remember what we feed them they give back to us. So to fortifiy them with good flax seed which will give us good vitamins and the whole wheat comes in scratch you are giving something very nutritious.

But like anything else too much of a good thing is no good either.

Thanks for your thoughts. Anything I give them beyond their laying feed is just in very small amounts as a treat.

I have flax in my flower garden (it's a really pretty blue flower) and I collect the seed each fall. I seed some of it out in my field, but I give some to my birds too. They seem to like it fine!

(They aren't getting a lot, just a little here and there)
