I have been craving pizza but need a good sauce recipe. I have a bunch of tomatoes that i was just given and can either make the sauce from scratch or using tomato sauce or paste.

    Thanks,

After a long time spent in search of the "perfect" pizza sauce, this is the favorite, hands down.

    Pizza Sauce (makes 1 cup)

1 10 3/4 oz can of tomato puree
    1/4 cup water
    1 TBSP sugar
    1 tsp olive oil
    1/4 tsp lemon juice
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp dried oregano
    1/8 tsp dried basil
    1/8 tsp dried thyme
    1/8 tsp garlic powder

Combine all ingredients and simmer 20-30 minutes.

I have used both of these copy cat recipes and I thought they were both good except I thought the Papa Johns recipe was a little too sweet so I would cut back on the sugar in that one.

    Little Caesar's Pizza Sauce

1 12 ounce can Hunts tomato paste
    1−1/2 cups water
    1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/4 teaspoon dried basil
    1/4-teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1/4-teaspoon sugar
    1/8-teaspoon garlic powder
    1/8-teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon Accent (optional−−−but if you want it exact, use it.)

Pre−mix the dry ingredients, mix, and set aside. In a small saucepan,
combine tomato paste and water. Over medium high heat, bring to a simmer
    .
Add the pre−mixed spice, stir in well. Reduce heat to low, and simmer 35−40
    minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cover sauce and refrigerate until needed. Makes about 2 1/2 cups.

    (4 − 12" pizzas)

This is a clone of Papa John’s Pizza sauce and it’s right on the mark.

    1 10 3/4-ounce can of tomato puree
    1/4-cup water
    1-tablespoon sugar
    1-teaspoon olive oil
    1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
    1/4-teaspoon salt
    1/4-teaspoon oregano
    1/8-teaspoon basil
    1/8-teaspoon thyme
    1/8-teaspoon garlic powder

    1. Combine ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil.
    2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.

Thank you both. Last go round I used the pizza sauce from Trader Joe's but it is a bit pricey. I will give the recipes a try. I may if I can find some goat cheese make some pizzas tomorrow.
