  3. pirtykitty I saw on the sale forum a while ago that she was sellling all her ducks because of finances.
She had really nice looking Welsh Harlequins and I miss her input. [IMG]

Thank you.. Drats I was hoping to get eggs from her this year to hatch.. Hers came from Holderreads.. Don't know of anyone else who will have hatching eggs from holderreads. Hopefully some people on here bought her ducks and will be offering eggs..

I miss her input too.. She was fun to talk too.

  5. I will have some gold welsh harlequin eggs, the pair are from Holderread and the duck is beautiful. I bought them from City Chicker. Also I want to breed the drake with my best silver harlequin, that will give silver ducklings. The silver duck has real good color but her form isn't quite as svelt as this gold holderread girl.

Thank you Dances with ducks, Will keep that in mind..
So if you breed two gold phase you get silvers??? what if you breed a gold and a silver.. I have a trio of silvers from metzers.
I would like to eventually have it where I could get both gold and silver phase when we let them hatch out their own...

It is my understanding that if you breed a Golden Drake to a Silver hen, the draklings will be silver and the ducklings will be gold. This is because it is a sex-linked gene. Other than that if you have two golds breeding or two silvers together, they can produce either gold or silver offspring, although gold is more rare.

I also have a couple of CityChicker's ducks. Boy are they adorable [IMG]

You can really see the quality difference between the Holderreads ducks and the Metzer ducks. Personality-wise, they are all pretty freaking awesome, it's just the Holderreads ducks look more true to type. The smartest of my ducks is one of the Metzer girls...Shelley. She is also the bravest and the friendliest, but Lexus and Tweak (both Holderreads) are not far behind. Wendy (my other Metzer girl) is dumber than a box of rocks, but she is sweet and cute [IMG]

  9. Quote:That's correct about the gold drake and silver hen, thank you 1lpook!* I just got back from vacation and haven't thought through what I will be able to offer this year.

pirtykitty Cetewen (sp?) also has gold harlequins from Holderread and I know she will be selling hatching eggs.

Wifezilla can you tell which eggs your Holderread hens are laying? Do you think you will want to sell any?

*You must have a gold hen to get a gold drakelet, theoretically if she mates with a silver drake who's mother was gold, she could produce 50% gold ducklings. Gold to gold will always produce gold. Silver to silver will produce silver ducklings unless the drake has the gold mother, in which case 50% of the female offspring could be gold.
