Do any of these hens look close to laying? The yellow one has sang the egg song and makes a lot of nests.

how old are they? They should start laying between 20 and 24 weeks. [IMG]

they look close but things like stress from heat can delay the start of egg production. patients is a virtue. so is spelling but hey we can't all be perfect.

Those orpingtons are still a ways off; they get very comb-y and wattle-y before laying; the EEs will get much redder too. I found my EEs matured quicker than my Orps...and started laying weeks in advance of the orps.

You're in the home stretch, but you're not there yet. Combs will get much bigger and redder as they get closer.

Mine always do the "squat" when they're about 2 weeks from laying. You'll know it when you see it.

OMG, the squat! I have asked about that and no one knew what I was talking about... Are you talking about when you get close to them, they poof out the wings a little, and squat really still and let you pet them all over. And if you pet the tail area, they stick their butt in the air???? Please tell me, is this what you are referring to and does that mean they are ready to mate and or lay eggs??? wonderful thank you jennifer
