I was thinking about possibly showing the little keet I am hand raising but don't know where to begin. Does anyone here show theirs, what all is involved? I would like any and all advice. Thanks

In Australia, there Is An Actual Standard For Guineas! But Only For Pied, Pearl And Lavender.

I have seen at some state fairs they have poultry shows and a time or two there have been guineas, I just thought it might be fun.

A buddy of mine just asked me the other day if people showed Guineas and I didn't know. I'd love to find out too!

Well, from What I know, They're Listed Under 'Any Other Breed, Soft Feather, Light.' They Will require Pen training Unless Hand reared. One Of My Friends Who Has Guineas regularly Shows Them, And Donates Ribbons, Etc. To Various Shows Around. Unless They Are Very tame And People-Friendly, They need To Be Kept In A Pen The Same Size As A Show Pen For About 6 weeks leading up to the show, with regular exposure to people.

Guineas are recognized by the APA in three varieties - Pearl, Lavender, and White. I haven't found the breed standards for them yet but it should be out in the next APA Standard of Perfection. I do show my Guineas at our local fair and love hearing all of the comments the public makes about them. The poultry superintendent usually puts them right near the Call ducks so there is quite a competition as to who can be the most obnoxious (I think the Call ducks are more obnoxious than the Guineas). Since Guineas are recognized by the APA, they can compete for Best in Show right along side all of the other poultry. I love bringing a rainbow of colors of Guineas so the public can see all of the wonderful colors Guineas come in. Of course, anything other than the 3 recognized colors has to show as AOV and can only compete for Best of Variety but that's fine by me. I'm more interested in the education aspect of the fair than the ribbons.
