So I'm getting 1 more chicken into my brood because the limit is 10 in the city so why not. :D I'm getting a baby Ameraucana, which it would be awesome if it turn out to be an Easter egger. I have a year old Buff Orpington hen and Rhode Island Red hen and almost 2 years old Brown Leghorn. I know the RIR and Leghorn won't rear the baby chicks but does the Buff rear the chicks? I am only getting 1 and will it die of loneliness or do I need to buy another one. Can I also like leave the chicks with the Buff for an hour or two so they can bond with each other? Anyway, thanks for helping. I've never raised 1 chick alone before. The other 3 hens were raise together as chicks.

Is your Orpington broody? If not, she will not care for any number of chicks. It is more likely she would attack them. Even if she is broody there is no guarantee she will take to one. If I were you I would get 2, or even 3 chicks. Chicks don't like to be alone.
