Does exposure to sun make them eat more?

So yesterday I was cleaning the brooder and since it was really warm and sunny outside, I decided to put my 3-4 week old chicks in the run area of my egglu cube while I cleaned. The cube will be their home when they are old enough to go outside. I have 9 chicks and they had never been outside. They were having a great time eating grass and playing keep away with tasty treats. They were outside for maybe 30 minutes. Once I brought them inside and put them in their nice clean brooder, they ate an entire feeder full of food in a matter of 4 hours!!!!! The feeder usually lasts a day and a morning! Do you think the sun increases their appetite?
