I've been looking for an excellent egg layer (not worried about meat) that is calm yet rugged, winter and heat hardy and good at foraging (i.e.easy on the feed). Like a hamburg (which ive tried) but not wild/flighty. Sex links are close too but I would like something that bred true. Does this chicken exist?

I really like my RIRs for their egg laying potential and their ability to adapt to their environment. Plus they're not flighty at all.

I like my my Orps temperament but they are hogs at the feed dish...maybe it's just mine.

Check out Dominiques. They are reported to be a good egg layer. Meet your other criteria.
