A little over a week ago we came home from a four day camping trip and when we got home one of our Rhodies (Chico) had sprouted wattles and her comb was huge. Before we left she looked just like the Rock (Alice) that is next to her. Amazing. Is this normal?

Anyway, she's not squatting yet. Should I expect it soon?

They are getting close, but probably a few weeks away still. When they get really close to laying, the skin around their eyes will get really red.

How old are they? Chico looks more like a cockeral from what I can see.

I actually just took some new pics today.

As far as size, she is the same size as the other two Rhodies I have. The bottom pic is one of the othrs and I have noticed her comb and wattles growing quite a bit lately. Chico doesn't display any signs of being a cockerel to me. She is from mypetchicken.com so there is a 90% accuracy in sexing. Plus, her legs are the same thickness as her sisters and her tail is too. I am expecting that her comb and wattles will redden up more as she gets closer to laying. Her comb is still a little pinkish. She isn't squatting yet.

If you rub/scratch her back does she squat? Then yes!

Chico does look like a girl... RIR roos have black/green feathers on their neck where their neck meets their body, which Chico doesn't have and her tail doesn't have black or green feathers like roo's do. Not sure if she is ready to lay, but she sure looks like a hen to me!!!

    My Roo's at 12 weeks:
