Our town bylaws say this: Ordinary domestic pets may be kept on any parcel.
Do you think that means chickens? I think it does. But I want to here what you guys think. So what I am asking is, do you think chickens could be considered an ordinary domestic pet? I am not using them for profit so I am thinking that it is legal. But what do you think? Plz say why or why not.:D

EDIT: I only plan on getting like 4-5 hens, no roosters

It likely depends upon zoning and land use ordinances. (at least that's the case in many places in the U.S.) Many areas consider poultry livestock. If land or parcels of land are designated as residential or for residential use only, this typically excludes the keeping of livestock on said property. Certain residential areas have zoning laws which permit the keeping of livestock/fowl/poultry on a particular size of lot or parcel. I would recommend checking on the ordinances pertinent to land use rather than animals/pets, specifically. (and, I agree - chickens are domestic pets....at least at our home [IMG])

I just looked at a couple of definitions and it looks like they are legal. Chickens are domesticated animals and if I am using them for pleasure and treating them with care then they are considered pets. And I think that they are ordinary so I think they would be legal.:D
