Does U know anything about black maran eggs...?? chics??

I hope that I spelled that right!!!LOL I have found someone locally that has the "RARE" black Marran?? ( They are the very dark eggs... I don't know anything about them except I saw some on ebay selling for over $100.00 per dozen!!! Can you tell me anything about them?? This man has eggs and baby chics.But before I buy them I need your help. Thanks Livia

I don't have any of the blacks, but I've got the cuckoo marans and a couple of blue marans pullets and a black copper roo. Mine are nice gentle birds and fairly good layers although after their first year mine have had a tendency to go broody alot. I love their dark colored eggs.

If you are just looking to get into them for the $$ you can get for the eggs, I would not recommend it. Serious marans breeders love the birds and work to improve the breed and egg color more than anything else.
