Need some advice please. Friday night I had a pack of dogs come on my property & attack my flock of free ranging chickens. Please note, when they are out, I am right there watching them, I just stepped inside to go to bathroom, in that couple of minutes, that's when dogs came. They killed 1 of my egg laying RIR's & a 4 mo. old Black Star (read tore them apart) & injured my 4 mo old Silver Laced Wyandotte. They tore a large bunch of feathers off her back & she has 2 gashes on her back, I'm assuming from dogs teeth. The problem is, she seems to be having with her right foot. She can move leg, but it seems to be gimpy, she doesn't have too much control of it. Could her leg be out of joint? She seems to be eating & drinking ok & pooping ok, it's just that foot she's having control issues with. Should I take her to vet to have checked out?

So sad ! I dont know how bad it is, can she walk around? give her time to heal. if she cannot walk, maybe seek Vet.

Thanks guys, she can sort of limp around, I'm hoping that she's just sore. She does have a gash in the area above that leg where the dog grabbed her. She doesn't seem to be in pain, she'll let me feel & touch her leg & foot. I'll give her a few more days.

I've washed gashes on her back several times with warm water & epsom salts & keep checking often for signs of infection, so far it looks good & have put some antibiotic ointment on them. I'd hate to have to put her down, but don't want her in pain or suffering. Thanks again everyone for all advice.

Update: Just took "Dotte" my little Wyandotte to Vet to be check out he said she's fine. All wounds look good & her gimpy foot should heal as soon as swelling in nerve goes down in a few days. He gave an antibiotic injection just to aid in healing & a topical antibiotic for wounds on her back. Thanks guys for all your help.

Had a similar incident happen to me last week too. Someone commented on my thread that you had the same issue. My Lavender is recovering well. She too had a limp. In fact, she was stepping right on top of her other foot. She is still limping but I am sure if I was attacked like that I would be limping for months. Sorry to hear about the two that didn't make it. Wishing Dotte a speedy recovery.

Thanks powellchicks, yes, Dotte's doing better, she's still got the gimpy walk, but my DBF built her an little 4 x 4 run so she can enjoy getting outside & doing "chicken stuff" without my big girls (3 laying RIR's) picking on her, infact, she's been outside today & has taken several dust baths & eaten lot's of grass & bugs & has been making the most contented sounds. I'm like you, if I'd been hurt like her, I'd be gimpy for months. Glad to hear your Lavender is doing better. Thanks again for posting.

Yes, thanks for checking on her. As a matter of fact, she is now back outside, doing chicken stuff with the others, she still has a gimpy walk, but seems to be doing great. She's able to do all the stuff the others, she seems to be getting along fine.
