Hi all! I am new to using this forum, but have always found awesome information through this site! So a dog I was babysitting somehow got outside when we were away for maybe an hour, and killed one of our Amerucanas..and injured one of our Red Stars. This happened yesterday (8/6) and she was shaking/breathing pretty heavily. My roommate found her laying in the sandbox with her head hanging over the ledge. One of her wings is pretty jagged at the tips, and her neck was definitely gnawed on a little, but I don't see any blood and nothing seems to be broken. She has a few small skin cuts on her feet, and potentially in her armpit..I have to double check. She seems to be drinking tons of water which I think would be a good sign but I haven't seen her eat at all. Any suggestions? I'd love to hear them all! Thank you. I have two other girls that survived..a little ruffled, but otherwise untouched.

I'm so sorry you lost a hen :(. I would buy a bottle of vetricyn to clean her wounds. You may also want to keep her seperate from the other chickens. So you can keep an eye on her and the other hens can't pick on her. Have you figured the extent of her injuries yet?

Thank you! I actually just got home, and it looks like nothing ever happened! She's running around the yard with the other girls, and very interested in getting treats. I'm so glad it wasn't anything too serious.
