Hi there, I have 4 dom chicks for the first time. Wondering if anyone wants to hazard a guess at my odd one that might be male.
They were hatched on March 15, so 2 wks old tomorrow.
3 of the 4 have sprouted tail feathers. The one you see with stubby butt, not much of a tail, is the one I am suspicious of. It also has a bit of a spikey looking ridge on the beak.
If it is just going to be an odd looking dom, I don't care at all. Just have my hens for laying.
It has some dark wash coloring on the feet/legs as female doms. It has some dark on the beak as female doms.
Doesn't the mystery of waiting to see just drive us nuts?!?

The white bars look awful wide on the suspicious one which is a male trait.

    Gah..... yeah, sigh.........
    We'll see.

IF it turns out roo, and it was a nice disposition, I really wouldn't mind having one. I think they are beautiful. Technically, I'm not supposed to have one in town where I live. But I have an EMS station directly across the street from me. [IMG] Tell me how a rooster could be more disturbing. [IMG]

I certainly don't need an aggressive chicken. I already have to guard against my ninja EE hen who only attacks my ankles from behind. She's weird.

Yes, here are the feet. They don't seem larger than the others at this time. Some dark coloring was hopeful.

So, I'm seeing a single comb like a barred rock instead of the rose comb of a dom...

Is it barred rock female? or male?

I agree with you guys. I have 2 barred rocks. Great hens. Not a bad thing if I have more. But.. I was hoping for Doms. This was a Craig's list buy. I didn't bank on anything 100%, so.. I will be disappointed if this dude totally lied about even intending to sell me Dom chicks. He seemed nice and sincere. but who knows.

That single looking comb is another reason I wondered about male. I knew the Doms are supposed to have rose combs like my Wyandottes. hmmm.. Now there could be 2 mysteries to wait and see. The gender, AND the breed..

My local independent farm store backed out of their order for doms, or any chicks at all a couple weeks ago. We just got a Southern States in our town, and I think it has been hard on them. I gladly support the little guy if he had gotten the chicks. So, this is why I went craigslist shopping..
