So I just got my chicks this weekend and they are doing great! I got them from the president of the Dominique Club of America and he has a very nice flock of birds (not to mention a really nice flock of Buckeyes). Notice how two (Ranger and Bandit) are a week older than the other four (sunshine, Lady Bug, Dandylion and Cluck). We were a little worried the younger ones would be picked on but an odd thing happens. When we transport them outside or to clean the cage the younger chicks will run under the slightly older chicks and the older ones will spread their wings like mother hens. I guess Dominiques have a reputation as good mothers for a reason! You can see that Ginger is pretty interested in them. She was obsessed but has since calmed down a bit. The last pic is the flock they came from, a very nice looking flock. So cute!!
I've got two Dominiques in my family of 6 and they are my favorites. They are about 4 weeks old now and since day one the Dominiques have been the friendliest and smartest of the lot. I thought one of them was not going to make it so I had to giver her some extra special care...she's doing great now. Your chicks are very cute!
My friend has two chickys that were two weeks old when he brought home two more. I thought they (the older ones) would pick on the babies, but they did the same thing as yours. Ahh... i love chickens...
