How do you tell the difference between the dominiques and barred rock hens. The color looks the same is the combs different, how about leg color or something else. Someone has possible consented to selling me a few and I don't know which they are. He says dom. but up here people call all of that color that. Jean

A true dom. has a rose comb. Barred rocks have straight combs.

For behavior issues, doms. are weather-tough birds, good foragers, and can become downright vicious when attacked. Barred rocks have the temperment of the rock breed.

Yup, the main difference is in their comb type. Dominiques have the rose comb, and Barred Rocks have the single comb.

In temperament, size, and eggshell color, they're pretty much the same.

In addition to the difference in combs, the pattern on the two breeds is different, as well as the type. This is especially apparent in sq birds.

We have Dominiques and one of the main reasons we got them was because of the cold hardiness. My hens are super sweet. Almost pests! LOL The roos are still babies so I can't tell you anything about how they behave. But all of my heans are love junkies!
