I found a page that said the males had light color legs. So I picked up all my babies and out of 26 only three have light color legs. I ordered a straight run and figured it would be about half and half girls and boys! I don't know if I trust this leg color method or not. When will the little fellas obviously be little fellas? They are three days old now. My hubby said I can't make pets out of any gals. Just two boys. The rest have to go to new homes. He was very unhappy when I turned all the older pullets into pets! [IMG] And none of them will be dinner. So I need to pick out two cockrels to make pets out of. I just don't want to error and make pets out of a girl and then have to give her away. Thank you for any help!

These six week olds are Barred Rocks, but the same sexing rules apply. Lighter overall color, more silvery, is male. Darker is female. Add that to the leg color or headspot if it's a very young chick (bigger, splotchier headspots are usually male, but not always) and you can guess pretty well what you have.

My new Dominiques are only 21 days old and you can already tell the roos. Much more distinct stripes and much lighter and they already have more combs than the girls.

I need to get batteries for the camera! I'll look in the basement later and see if I can find where I put the extra batteries! I know I bought some a while back! My brain is fuzzy ... err maybe thats feathery! LOL

I still need to find two keets. Anyone selling keets nearby? Or going to Meyer soon? I just want two to keep with the chickens - any color but white! White ones seem like they would be targets for hawks!

Here you go! Ignore the food bits! They are messy eaters!
