How common is it to get double yolk eggs? My friend has a Rhode Island Red hen that lays a couple a week. [IMG] Is that normal?

First off, Golden Sparrow... I love your avi... Just saying.

Second, the eggs... I have one hen who has the most tendency in my flock.. Out of the 5 double yolked eggs I have received, all 5 were laid by my Black Australorp. So... I dunno. I have had her a little under a year, I think... So not that often really.. [IMG]

When pullets start to lay they tend to have the most double yolks for the first year. Its more common in young birds

Since you put your question in the incubating and hatching section, they aren't a good choice for incubating. There's not enough room inside the shell for 2 chicks to develop.
