double yolk

    how common is it to get double yolk eggs? i have 3 pullets that just started laying ive maybe have gotten 18 eggs total 2 of which have been doubles and i think i have 1 more in the fridge. this one laid by my turken. what makes this happen?

    This happens alot with new layers.....I don't know what causes it, but I just call it a little "hiccup". Aren't they neat? Were the double yolkers shells extra large? I had one just last week and it was HUGE!

    yes the egg was much larger than the others. the one in the fridge turned out a double also. pretty cool

    I had one hen that kind of tended to lay a double yolker, my boys think it is a special treat to eat that egg! But now that they are past a year old (the hens) I only get one once in a while. mrsK
