Ok, I could probably google this, or find the answer here somewhere. But it seems more fun to ask you, and then I also get to show this picture :) Does anyone know if all chickens occasionally lay a double-yolk egg? Or do they come from specific chickens/breeds?

    That is a great pic!

Double yolks are most common with new layers during their first months or so of laying...
    .... and/or high production hybrid cross-breeds.
It can happen on occasion with any bird.

    Hi Aart,

Thanks for that! That's very helpful, and it explains why we had some many double-yolkers when they first started laying. They're a bit more rare now..

One of our hens frequently laid double yolkers her first few months. I could always tell which eggs were double so I would include one in the cartons for family & friends. I think it's fun to crack a egg and see a double yolk.
