This is my take on a automatic feeder. The two hold close to 20 pounds of feed and cost about $20. They just shy of six feet tall

That will work----if your chickens are not like my friends. I got several friends that built the PVC feeders like these---the chickens just dumped all the feed on the dirt---all of them but one quit using them. He still uses his because the fill part is outside his chicken pen and he just pours enough feed in them for a daily feeding. Good Luck

I made something similar that works on the same principle, from 4" PVC

Since this picture was taken, I've added a 4" extension to the feeding port, virtually eliminating the wasting of feed (birds can't rake it out nearly as much). I can see where this will be a problem with yours. I use a 2 1/2 gal. bucket to carry feed in; takes about 1 3/4 buckets to refill every 3-4 days for 8 LF birds. I keep a cap over the "Y" at night to keep rats out, & a rubber cap over the top end to keep weather out.

The only real problem I have is refilling. I use a standard sized feed scoop, which will spill feed on the ground if I'm not careful. I tried using a funnel, but the spout just backed up with my pelleted feed, so I put up with the aggravation.

Pick you up one of these or similar---remove the innards and you want have any problems with this "Funnel" clogging.

Or just go to tractor supply and get one of these and saw off a few inches of the spout part to make the hole bigger.
