We have 3 drakes and 7 hens, all raised together. The drakes have just gone to greenheads. 5-7 months old. We have noticed one Drake being nasty to another yet seems to be fine with the third. This is to the point the bully drake will not let the other into the pool or the duck house. Is this normal behavior? My daughter say's she saw a drake mount a female however I have not seen this. Mallards are seasonal breeders correct??. Should I split these guys up and split females between them. We want breeders eventually. Thanks

Two of my drakes went at each other for about a week. Finally there was a huge brawl and everything went back to normal. Same thing with the one not letting the other into the duck house, keeping him at the perimeter of the flock. I was worried, but it worked out. I've heard though that it doesn't always work itself out.

You say there was a huge brawl-- so I guess you just kept everyone together. Hopefully ours will work it out as well. This behavior just started in the last couple days. We weren't sure if we should seperate them but we are limited with space as we only have on duck house and litttle pool for them. Thanks for the info.

I was lucky that when the actual fighting started I was on a four day off period and could hang out and watch what occurred. I few times I got pretty scared, but I didn't interfere. They are the best of buds now. Go figure.

I have heard though that sometimes it doesn't work out, so keep that in mind.
