I just put together a new pen for my ducks. I have had a "nest box" in the old pen for about a month with a fake egg....they never even look at it - I moved them in on Saturday - nothing out of the ordinary yesterday but this morning when I went to let them out in the yard, they wouldn't come out - not even for peas....they were in the pool so I just left the door open and went back in. I came back out about an hour later and they were all still inside but I noticed that my two drakes that have been mating my girl were in the nest box....the fake egg has been covered and I tried to reach in and move the hay around to see if there was a real egg....my normally loving male bit me and the other one hissed....I would expect this from her if she was on a nest but not the guys....is this normal? Did she lay an egg? Here is a picture of my "lovable" male in the nest box with my mallard drakes standing by. By the way - as far as I know, my hen has not yet layed any eggs.....
