    Hey everyone!

I'd love to see the work everyone has done, at any skill level!

I did this one a few months ago in a spur of the moment bit of inspiration. It is just a chicken off of google but I grabbed the closest piece of anything I could work on (I had never painted on wood before) and off I went. After not doing any drawing for about 2 or so years I'm fairly happy with the outcome. The eye is a little out of place but who cares ;)

I posted this some while ago in another thread, but that one's been gone so long I doubt many have seen it, so I'll put up the pic again. :)
[IMG] was the original, and I drew it's likeness on mat board with colored pencils:

I also drew this with ink pen on rag board:

Wow! That's awesome! I've always had trouble with both coloured pencils AND ink.. Great job! :)

Thanks! Your painting REALLY makes me want to give painting on wood a shot though! I love how the wood grain shows through the paint and gives it even more character.

I'd highly recommend it! I built it up in thin layers using acrylic dipped in water, it was really neat how the wood would absorb all the water, thus never ruining previous paint layers. Id definitely do it again! One of the best surfaces I've used.

My DH started oil painting again after over 20 years away from it in order to present a gift to a dear friend. This is a portrait of her flock rooster, Lancelot, who has battled coyotes, foxes, hawks, invading roosters, and even a rottweiler and lived to tell the tales. He'd never done a chicken before, only mostly fantasy and landscapes and old barns.

This picture of Lancelot is the one used.

I just saw this thread again...this is a wonderful job! And the comb/wattles and hackle feathers are especially good.
