Hi there! I have three wonderful chicks (a RIR an Ancona and an Adalusian) that are about two weeks old, and just starting to feather out. Is it okay to introduce them to a dried mealworm as a treat? Is that too big for them to handle? I use a complete food that includes grit from my local tack shop (they've been doing this for literally 100 years, but I forgot to ask about the mealworms). A wayward earwig was in the brooder the other morning and they were having a blast throwing it around, playing tug of war, etc. Gross! We got it out of the brooder and into the trash, btw!

Last year I was watching my Pekin mother with her 2 week old chicks scratching around in the dirt when one of the chicks found a large leather jacket grub and all the chicks chased the click with the grub and when he had a moment he swallowed the grub whole, I was amazed because the grub so big compared to the size of the chick, he was very pleased with himself and he lived to tell the tale.
