I'm wondering how do you pronounce d'uccles? Are the cc's hard with a ka sound or are they soft ss's sound?

It's Dutch, not French, so it should be DOO-culls.

...but then again, no one knows that, so everyone says it as if it's French: Doo-CLAYS.

Yes, it's Dutch, the name of a city, I believe, but the pronunciation is about the same as French. If you check the pronunciation online, it's "DOO-kluh". I've also said "Doo-clay".

Truthfully, I guess it really depends on the intent of the person who named the breed.

Well, learn something new every day! Never had the breed, but do admire them so. I always assumed (something I NEED to quit doing!) it was pronounced as "duck - ells". Took French in High School, but didn't amount to much here! Good to know, thanks for asking the question.

I can't find which online dictionary told me it was doo-cull, but it was a man voice, whereas all I can find now are women's voices saying doo-cluh.

Here's one with the Flemish version also, supporting the duck-ull sound.
