Duck broken leg- horse stepped on her

Please help. Our neighbors just came by on their 4 wheelers and our pregnant mare flipped out and stepped on one of our ducks. Cleanly broke her leg above where the skin ends. It is a compound fracture. Should I remove the broken part and treat the nub, or try to reset the leg and immobilize the area?

Any help greatly appreciated. This just happened minutes ago, and she is currently being held so she doesn't infect or cause more damage by flailing around.
 
If at all possible, take the duck to a vet since it is a femur fracture. Clean it with Betadine or Chlorhexidene before splinting. Look at pages 5 through 8, 10, and 18-19 about compound fractures, splinting, and femur fractures. Splints should be on for 3 plus weeks. Here is a good link on splinting broken bones in birds:
