Are snowy mallards the same thing as welsh harlequins?
No, they are two completely different breeds.
Can you tell the difference?
The differences are very apparent. Welshies are bigger, cannot fly, and lay much better than mallards. The type and form of the breeds is very different too. Meanwhile mallards are smaller, they have full flight capability, and they are only seasonal layers.
Okay, thank you! I believe I have snowy Mallards.
You're welcome! If you want some confirmation, post some pictures and we'll be able to tell you
I'll definitely do that but it'll have to be tomorrow because I've already put them to bed for the night.
Okay, so I got some pictures of the two "Welsh Harlequins" that I suspect may be Snowy Mallards. They came from a local feed store as an assortment of straight run ducks and the feed store said they get their birds from ideal poultry. One is whiter and the other has more brown on it.
Well then that's an easy one, Ideal has no WHs and only snowy mallards. Are those mallards they are with? If so they're mallard sized and not WH sized too.
Yes those are Mallards next to them.
