I jumped into the chicken raising adventure about 6 months ago and made what was a novice mistake by mail ordering 20 or so mixed ornamentals. I probably will never figure out what some of them are! Much to my dismay one of the girls started crowing last week. A pathetic little hoarse croak but no mistaking I did not get all hens as I had ordered. The flock is starting to really feather out nicely as a group and I plan to submit some photos soon to see if the breeds can be identified and perhaps a rooster or two spotted before they start crowing. My daughter already has a small flock of 5 and a giant beautiful rooster we call Big Red. I hope to make friends here and share stories with you folks in the future. Oh I amost forgot the other critters on the premises consists of 5 cattle, 4 dogs, and a half dozen or so barn cats.
