I have a 7 month old hen and I found her this evening laying on the ground with her legs behind her. I went over to her and she clapped her wings but could stand. I lifted her up and she couldn’t stand on her legs. What is wrong? I do have 1 drake and a total of 6 hens. Do you think the drake could have broken her back?

Hi, there!

Sorry to hear about your duck, could you post a video or picture of her?

As far as now, she should be placed in a warm, quiet dimly lit area inside the house, with food and water provided. There are a few questions I'd like to ask, what are you feeding her, do her legs feel warm, do you have a pond, any chance that she may have been in contact or eaten something toxic, for example, screw's, staples, moldy feed, maggots, pesticides, or decaying vegetation, does she appear to be lethargic, any signs of injuries, and is she able to move the rest of her body, does she have control of her neck?

Unless your drake is known for inflicting serious damage amongst your hens I would seriously doubt that would be the cause.

She can move her neck and head. She will twitch her legs now and then but can’t bend them I guess. When I touch them they feel normal but she doesn’t try to move them away from my touch. They all have access to a pond. Food is kept in dry area and given fresh daily.
