Hi guys, I posted in the medical section but was told it might be useful to post here. My 10 month old pekin is all of a sudden losing his balance. He will be preening his belly and actually fall to to the ground. He can walk, swim and I've checked his legs and feet for injury but can't find anything has anyone heard of this? ? His poops look pretty normal and he's eating and drinking fine

Bacterial infection can cause equilibrium problems. You might want to see a vet. Barring that you can try bird biotics and give doxycycline.

Just like us, ducks can get ear infections, that can throw them off.

But they also - ducklings anyway - can have niacin deficiency. Yours is not a duckling, but I was wondering if a little B complex or brewer's yeast might help.

Another possibility is ingesting some kind of toxin. You might consider giving food grade activated charcoal - I would put a teaspoon in a pint of water and give him that to drink - it absorbs toxins.

A good duck vet is best - and it is the weekend, and sometimes there aren't any available.

Please keep us posted.
