duck overmating?

    I have a crested pekin 11 weeks old an he keeps mating with my ancona female 12 weeks old ... every time she goes in their kiddy pool he jumps in after her and looks like he's going to drown her ... is this ok at their age or should I do something

    Do you just have a pair? I had a big pekin male and he totally stressed my 4 females from mating with them so much. Just having a pair would probably be really stressful for her. I would get more females or trade him for a female or 2. Good luck. BTW, he won't kill your girl by dunking her head, just stress her out and cause her to lose feathers on her back.

    Though it doesn't happen often, I have read of ducks getting drowned, she needs a break from him. I would separate, and if you can, get more females.

    He's so young tho... 11 weeks but he hasn't figured out that he can mate with her out of water yet
