One of our Pekin ducks was an over achiever yesterday. Found this monster egg in one of the flower beds the like to lay in.

Here is a shot of it next to one of the normal size Pekin eggs from the same day.

Any insights as to why it's so large and if it could be hatched? Fix in to put a batch in the bator this weekend.

How old is your duck? Sometimes when they just begin to lay or are getting old they lay different sized eggs. I don't see why it couldn't be hatched. Anyway that is one big egg.

Not sure on the age of our Pekins. We got them full grown from some folks that said they were "a couple of years old".

That might be the reason then! Just getting a little older is all!

Out of around fourty eggs from this season, this is the only giant. Guess we'll just chalk it up to "one of those things"...

I wonder if it has a double yolk, have you checked for twins?

Nope. Can you see a double yoke if you candle it?

Candled it. Hard to tell but it looks like it might be a double. What's the chance of twins making it?
