Duckling can't open his eyes

We got a new Muscovy duckling that hatched last night and it can't open its eyes. I tried using a wet q-tip and can open his eyes with that, but then the snap back shut and he doesn't seem to be able to open them himself. Any suggestions?

Nevermind. I thought he was older than he was, and after a few hours he perked up and opened his eyes.

Two Muscovy ducklings hatched and are doing well. Another duckling, possibly Pekin, was ALMOST there and I think got stepped on in the nest and died. One reason why a heavy, clumsy goose might not be a great choice for hatching ducklings.

That's to bad, however it happens ... is the mama receiving them well? if so, look at that and move on. Sadly, things happen. Love to see the new babies!

Glad the eyes are okay. I keep Poly for eyes around, it works great on ducklings(and sheep lol, and people)
