Very carefully pluck them one at a time. If they bleed too much, or if his skin starts to tear, cut the very short.

Oh, maybe I read it wrong...I think Amiga mentioned Ibuprofen. Miss Lydia uses this:

According to a BYC Duck Forum post a while back, a vet gave the go-ahead to use Advil (which I believe is ibuprofen) for ducks. 4 to 5 mg per pound of duck.
