Hi everybody, newly registered to the forum, but have been reading and learning a lot from here for the past few months. My question is regardling one of my (possibly) 3 week old Pekin ducklings. It seemed like it went through a huge growth spurt much sooner than the other ducks and grew quite large. Bigger than our 7 week old guineas, not sure about weight though. I realized two nights ago that it wasn't walking much and wouldn't run away with the other birds when I entered the brooder to change the water. Did my research and found that it was probably a niacin deficiency. I've started supplementing with Brewers yeast and adding niacin to the water and also hand feeding and watering my little lame duck to make sure it's actually getting its niacin.

So, I guess question has a few parts. 1. How long does it usually take for a duckling to regain the ability to walk after a niacin deficiency? Assuming it wasn't to advanced. 2. Is there anything I can I can do to help it strengthen its legs? 3. Do you think it's increased size in comparison to my other pekins, that came on the same hatchery shipment, is because it's just a few days older than the rest?

    Thanks in advance. :):):)

Awesome! Thank you for the info. I checked on it briefly this morning and it was still pretty immobile but waddled away a bit when I set the feeder and waterer near it. I'll have to see if I can find some worms, we just rolled up for the garden so hopefully it won't be too hard to find them.

Much appreciated Amiga! Think I'll bring it and a couple others up to the house for tub time tonight.
