Dust box - to seal/paint or to not seal/paint?

So I've got this beauty for my 3 little ladies to dust bathe in... Question is, should I seal/paint it? If so, what with?

Options I have on hand: Helmsman Indoor/Outdoor Clear Satin Spar Urethane, Valspar Interior/Exterior Spray Paint&Primer and some leftover cans of interior paint.

Of course this is all assuming they'll use this new designated area...
