Is brooding silkies different from other chicks? We are on our third year with chickens and very little loss in the past (usually within a day of shipment), but this year we have lost 2 out of 10 self blue silkies. They cost me a pretty penny, so I'd like to figure out what's going on with them. The other chicks shipped the same time and arrived a week ago are doing fine. We lost one to shipping stress the first night.
Feeding 20% unmedicated chick starter and providing electrolyte as per package directions. Silkies look fine, even the dead ones. They are spread out beneath the heat lamp, so it doesn't appear that heat is the issue. Both times, they've died over night and we find them in the morning when we go to do chores.
Any ideas? Thanks!
