Early chicks

Hi peeps,
we have mild winters and I am thinking of getting some chicks early this year-- layers.
Does anyone know if there is any drawback to this such as that they will molt the first fall or something?

Generaly no matter what time of year, your probably going to see your first molt in about a year from day you get them. I get chicks as early is a can get them. Usually end of January to the beginning February, Most the time I will have them raised and laying by the end of summer early fall. Chickens will normally molt spring or fall.
