agreed here - I like hearing different opinions and thoughts. It's no fun to discuss.debate something when everyone is in agreement. As long as everyone is nice about it and not mocking, I think it's great. I'm not asking anyone to blindly agree with me at all.

Also, for the record, I hadn't seen official global warming references with earth hour, but it doesn't surprise me. It does diappoint me, though. Propaganda and politics are far-reaching. I still think, though, that we all can and should participate for the wonderful and beautiful and reaonable reasons presented by many in this thread. It can be about what you want. And if you think it's silly or you disagree.... by all means, pump the heat and air conditioning and hair driers and vacuums and air compressors all at the same time. It certainly would be entertaining to see

There may not be a scientific consensus, but the ice caps are melting. Weather patterns are changing. The ocean is warming. It may all be natural and that's fine. Well here the hour has passed, and my son arrived on his way home just before the time came, so I quickly explained to him and he decided to stay and join me.

I had been watching the news just before he came and I was watching reports of the people facing flooding over there and the pictures were just so hard to imagine. People are losing everything.

So we were both happy to spend the time thinking of them and talking about days long ago, when we knew what it was to have no central heating, lol.... still do most of the time. I must get a new system soon.
We laughed a lot to remember the trials we have been through. We survived. The hour passed and we had a nice cup of tea. We are so busy we don't often have time to spend just talking like this, it was good.

It was good to have quiet time, and we also went outside to look at the stars. It is a cold crisp night.

Best wishes to you all, and thanks for making this such a good thing to do on a saturday night.

Well, no one has to shut off their appliances and lights for those specific reasons, you can do it just to enjoy a quiet peaceful evening with family.

Turning off your lights is not going to kill that many people.

I find it terrible that people purposely go against a thread, just to start an arguement.
It isnt political propoganda, its just people trying to help out our earth!
Why is that so hard to understand?
Why is everyone so stubborn that they cant just do something for the earth.
Heres an idea to all of those who have hijacked this post just for fun.
How about you start your own thread entitled "dont particpate in Earth Hour"
If you dont want to participate then dont, but dont go to extra means just to ruin it for people who actually care.
People do it for different reasons, Im not doing it for the earth, Im not doing it to stop global warming, Im participating because I think it is a great idea, and why not?
