Buddy(9 week old german shepard/huskey cross) has started to train. He gets bord if I don't mix it up( he'll last 5 mins compared to 15!). In one week he as learned:look, sit, laydown, shake paw, play dead, target with nose on hand, stay in position until released(count of 5 so far). I'm looking for tricks that are easy to train. He's such a good boy, he takes a few times to get the trick but then the trick sticks:)

He must be really smart to learn all of that at 9 weeks! You can play hide and seek with him. Have someone hold onto him while you hide. I used to play "find it" with my chow/shep. I would put him in a down stay and hide an old sock out of his sight. Then go back to him and tell him to find it. Sometimes I would catch him peeking around the corner...lol.

That's a good one for GSDs. We have the kids hide and tell ours which to find and off she goes.

I also taught her not to eat a treat until commanded to do so. Start to place the treat on his leg or nose, but when he goes for it say, "wait" and pull it away. Repeat until he realizes not to go for it and you can put it all the way down. Then say, "ok!!" excitedly and he will take it. When Kyla was going to training classes for basic training as a puppy, they brought in a poodle who was in advanced training to demonstrate this trick. My husband proudly announced that his puppy could do the same thing, which was met by a huff and disbelief on the part of the trainer. He demonstrated and she performed it perfectly.

was also going to suggest "find it".... but "bring" and "take to___" would also be good to teach... My boy would take a beer to daddy if I gave it to him, or a shirt or what ever. And find it, I'd drop my keys or wallet or phone when out walking and have him "find it"... very handy when you lose something!

this might be classed as pretty boring (or lame!) but our Jack Russell's favourite trick is what we call 'manners' (or begging).... She can also do manners and catch the ball at the same time...

She can also 'speak' on command and do 'roll over and over and over and over'....

(plus the standard, sit stay and lay down)...

I forgot to teach him leave it! guess that's next. I have done puppy school with my other dog so I've been trained though I want to get him ready for an advanced level as I want him to gain his canine good nieghbor certificate:) I've been hand feeding him so he wants to try hard:) I can't wait until i can work outside with hime, right now it's way too mushy out and he hasn't had all his shots. The seem like it would be fun and very good for his active puppy brain:)

I sometimes forget that I taught Kyla to only take a treat on command. Sometimes I will toss her a treat and she will just sit there, looking at me pitifully until I remember to tell her she can eat it!

I taught my Lhasa how to shut the door ,any door.
Easiest trick in the world, Call puppy hold treat in front of the open door high enough so he has to jump to get it. When he jumps his paws will hit the door and the door will move . repeat until door is completely shut.Soon he will know what you want and that door will shut hard and fast.At the same time the puppy jumps you say "Shut the door"
After a while you can say "shut the door" and point at the door and it will happen

Disclaimer.....sometimes he gets overexuberant and will shut an open door without the command. One day he shut the door as my mother was leaving and the door hit her in the you know what and almost sent her flying off the front porch.
