Eating Real Food and Not Shavings

Hello
I've noticed that my chicks have been pecking at the ground constantly. Even though I do see them eating their real food, it seems as if they may (or may not) be eating the shavings. I don't think they're actually eating the shavings, I wonder if there's bugs flying around in the brooder, which may be what they're pecking at. How would I prevent this? They're almost 2 weeks old now. We could try putting paper towel down, but I don't know if they'll still peck/eat the shavings after removing them.
Help?
Thanks!

Its quite normal for chicks to peck around - its their way of investigating their surroundings. If its a concern, then sure, put paper towels over the wood shavings.
