My parents randomly decided to sell their house (after we bought 12 chickens!) and they're talking about buying a house in Edmond Ok. Currently there's a rule to where you can't have backyard chickens unless you have over 30,000 square feet of land.. and we haven't found any houses that are even close to that number.
So here's my crazy question... what if... I kept two as a pet... kept them inside, or in a garage at night an let them out in a fenced in backyard to give them daylight (and treat them as if they were a dog(I know they're not dogs))
I know chickens are gross.. and they smell...
But... I have this one chicken that I'm absolutely obsessed with and I feel like I can't part from her.. she's super small too so I feel like that's a plus (she's a buff Cochin :love ) she's has a clumsy/puppy like personality! Every time she sees me she'll run right to me so I can pick her up.. she'll even lay on my lap so I can pet her.
The other chicken I would keep is a small Cochin too, but she's a light Cochin not a buff(she's not as sweet, but she's not mean)
    So what do y'all think?
Could you have a chicken as a pet (technically inside) when there's a rule where you can't have backyard chickens :fl
I know I'm just in denial and the idea probably can't happen.. I'm just fishing for any kind of hope.

You can buy chicken diapers and keep them in the house, but my my the chicken dust is rediculous! I think keeping two in your back yard and at night roosting in the garage is a good idea.

I just may have to buy some chicken dippers then! Do they hurt the chickens in any way? I saw a video of someone putting one on and it looked like it was cutting into her wing

I don't know I have never done chicken diapers but I am sure you could find some comfy ones or make some custom ones that fit your birds.

Honestly, I'd say you could get by with keeping them if their coop is in the center of the property. One ordinance for OKC said 200 ft from neighbors dwelling. So if you keep them as far from neighbors as possible, you may not have an issue. Nice neighbors help A LOT! Get on their good side and sweet talk/educate/beg those closest to be understanding. If all else fails, make her a therapy chicken. Lol.
