We were told as chicks these were buff Orpington now we know they are not. Haha between 4-6 weeks is it too early to tell breed and it's a rooster? This is the one that looks different than the others. 20180404_085019.jpg 20180404_084953.jpg

Where did you get your chicks? They could be a broiler/ranger type or just buff Orpington crosses from a whoops in the breeding yard.

I'd put my $ on Rainbow Ranger (or whatever the hatchery called their slow grow broiler).

So is the comb a sign, if it's bigger than the rest, that it's a male? Or is that breed specific? I've got a barred rock too that shows a bigger comb. 20180404_113750.jpg

That barred rock is a male, but I know this only in part because of the comb. Its confirmed because the barring is so light. Males have wide white/grey bars compared to females which are opposite with wider dark bars. Here's my BR pullet when she was 5 weeks.

Barred rock looks like a boy as does the first bird you showed. #1 could be an off color RIR or NHR. If he's bigger than the rest, he is probably a Freedom Ranger. He does not look like a Dixie Rainbow.
