Were you expecting sex linking for some reason? A rooster with a barring gene like yours hasn't a chance of a sex linked offspring. They do look girly, though. And the Welsummer cross is really pretty, too.

No, Speckled. I figured he would mix things up in there. [IMG]

Normally that pen has a black ameraucana rooster over a variety of hens, including a couple of barred rock hens. With that combination all of the solid chicks are female and anybody with barring is male. Makes it easy to sell them off. [IMG] Now I have the original ameraucana roo plus the barred rock/ameraucana EE roo in there. Both are doing the deed so there is no telling who fertilized what. I will say that the young EE boy is pretty zippy and a HUGE fan of girls! This hatch had the one barred girl, a pile of barred boys with pea combs and cheeks, one barred boy with a single comb, a pile of black girls with pea combs and cheeks, and the two funky wellie mixes. It has been interesting watching them develop. Of course, now I need to sell them off and nobody wants the boys. I have someone lined up for these three and I needed some backup on gender before I sell them as girls. They looked girly to me, especially compared to the boys, but I like confirmation from other eyes.

    Thanks for the help!

Ah, I see. Yup, that barring gene did mess things up, didn't it? I love all the BR over Ameraucana hens I've had over the years. Never had an Ameraucana or EE rooster over barred hens, at least not yet. Love the blue barred birds, especially, like my Riley.
