I have an egg bound hen she is my favorite hen and her name is Lexi. She has been egg bound for over 2-3 months and she has been eating drinking and acting like her normal self and she has been putting her weight back on and looks a lot better. I was wondering before spring comes is there something I could give her to shut down her oviduct so she can't lay eggs anymore. And I want to do this because before spring comes she will start laying eggs again and they will keep building up inside her and kill her so is there something to give her to stop her from laying eggs anymore

    Thanks[IMG]

I guess we aren't understanding what you are saying here. There's no way that she has had an egg stuck in her for 2-3 months. Do you mean she repeatedly becomes egg bound?

No she seriously has an egg inside of her for close to that long ya I kept giving her a warm bath to soothe her abdomen area and she start acting better and eating drinking and you can feel the egg still inside her I talked to the vet did everything he said and nothing but she acts like her normal curious little girl she is she even goes to the bathroom good and she is molting now but how can I stop her from laying eggs all together she is definitely a survivor [IMG] so glad so is ok I thought I was going to loose her because of how skinny she was getting

Are you meaning that she is an internal layer? Egg bound hens die within a few days at the most, but hens who begin to lay internally, dropping the eggs into their abdomen live much longer most of the time but it does kill them eventually.

There are implants that stop birds from laying, often used in parrots. Not cheap. You will need to find an avian vet and discuss.

She did not lay anything but she sang the egg song after she was in there for a while and seemed to satisfy her
